We are all about celebrating mums who create their own beautiful businesses via our #lovethatmumbiz movement. And this business is no doubt one of the most lovely ideas I have come across! Can you tell us a bit about how The Girl Who Cried Wolfe got started and what was your inspiration to start it?
My business started after an inspiring trip to India in 2012. I fell in love with the people and culture and decided to source and develop jewellery items with a couple of suppliers out of Delhi. The first few years of my business was focused on bohemian jewellery. During this time though I was also really drawn to styling and setting up beautiful outdoor spaces. It was only after being heavily involved with the styling for my wedding in 2017 and setting up my daughters 1st birthday that I decided to evolve my own business to not only supply accessories but bohemian styling and luxe food platters.
What was your job/career prior to starting what you do now? (or do you run your business alongside something else)
Prior to starting my business I worked in buying for a number of fashion retail companies from 2003. Although I worked for some great brands my day to day work consisted of a lot of report running, analysis and spreadsheets.....I craved something more creative! My business was a side project while I worked in this industry. After having my daughter in 2016 my business has become my main line of work. My business has definitely given me the creative outlet I was craving particularly since I expanded the business to include bohemian styling and platters. There is something really amazing to feel like you have finally found your thing. It's hard work but I love it
What is the most rewarding thing about running your own business? And is there anything you find hard?
The most rewarding thing is seeing your vision come to life and getting amazing feedback from my customers....there is nothing more rewarding than that! The hardest thing is working solo a lot of the time. At times I do feel a little isolated and miss the human interaction and the opportunity to bounce ideas off people. It is really important for me to have a list of tasks for the week so I stay on track. Being organised is so important and setting myself daily, weekly and monthly goals and financial targets.
Running a business can be a juggle. How do you manage this day to day?
The majority of the jobs for my business is on weekends with a lot of the prep work done on a Friday. There are also a few late nights mid week during busy times plus fitting in bits and pieces during my daughters sleep times! As long as I have care for my daughter on a Friday it fits in pretty well at the moment around my partners work hours. It was so important for me after having my daughter to try and find work that was a bit more flexible....being away from her five days a week wasn't something I wanted to do. Unfortunately the company that I worked for prior to having my daughter was not open to part time work hours. At the time I was disappointed but I'm really glad now that it happened as it forced me to focus on my passion.
Is there anything new or exciting coming up for The Girl Who Cried Wolfe?
The bulk of our business is creating beautiful bohemian outdoor spaces...Ladies long lunches, romantic couple set ups and baby birthdays is where the majority of my work is....Just recently though I have been approached to style an outdoor bohemian wedding ceremony which we are so excited to be able to do. We are also working with some Moroccan suppliers to get some exciting items added to our range. It's so important to always evolve and be able to offer fresh new beautiful looks to the customer...watch this space!
